The intern will work closely with AWeCCA's Communications and Advocacy teams to amplify our impact, engage stakeholders, and advance animal welfare policy across Africa. This is an excellent opportunity for recent graduates or early-career professionals looking to build a career in nonprofit communications, advocacy, or international development.

"My internship at AWeCCA taught me how to turn complex animal welfare issues into compelling stories that move people to action. I now work as a communications officer for a national animal protection organization."

— Patricia Akello, 2025 Intern Alumna

Key Responsibilities: The intern will assist in creating and scheduling content for AWeCCA's social media platforms (Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram), help draft press releases, newsletters, blog posts, and impact reports, support the planning and execution of advocacy campaigns and events, monitor media coverage and compile reports on animal welfare issues across Africa, assist with website updates and basic graphic design tasks, participate in stakeholder meetings and take detailed notes, and contribute to donor communications and grant reporting as needed.

Eligibility Requirements: Applicants must hold a Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, public relations, international relations, political science, or a related field (or be in the final year of study), have excellent written and verbal communication skills in English (proficiency in French or Portuguese is an asset), be familiar with social media management tools and basic design software (Canva, Adobe Suite, or similar), demonstrate a strong interest in animal welfare, conservation, or social justice issues, and be eligible to work in Uganda (Ugandan citizens or those with valid work permits).

What We Offer: A competitive monthly stipend to cover living expenses in Kampala, hands-on experience with a respected pan-African organization, mentorship from experienced communications and advocacy professionals, opportunities to attend high-level meetings and events, a portfolio of published work (articles, social media campaigns, reports), and a certificate of completion and professional reference.

How to Apply: Interested candidates should submit the following: a current CV, a cover letter (maximum 1 page) explaining your interest in animal welfare and what you would bring to the role, two writing samples (blog posts, articles, press releases, or social media campaigns you have created), and contact information for two professional or academic referees. Shortlisted candidates will be invited for an interview (in-person or virtual).

Important Dates: Application Deadline: September 10, 2026. Interviews will be conducted in late September 2026. The internship is expected to begin in October 2026 and run for 3 months, with the possibility of extension based on performance and funding.
