AWeCCA, in collaboration with global health and conservation partners, is pleased to announce the One Health Research Grant — supporting innovative research at the critical intersection of animal, human, and environmental health across Africa.

This grant is designed for early-career researchers, veterinarians, public health professionals, and environmental scientists who are working to address complex health challenges that transcend traditional disciplinary boundaries. We welcome proposals that demonstrate practical applications for communities and ecosystems.

"The One Health Research Grant enabled us to track disease transmission between wildlife and livestock in a critical conservation area. Our findings are now informing national policy on buffer zone management."

— Dr. Fatima Diallo, 2025 Grantee, Senegal

Research Priorities: Priority will be given to proposals focused on zoonotic disease surveillance and control at wildlife-livestock-human interfaces, antimicrobial resistance patterns in livestock and human populations, climate change impacts on disease emergence and transmission, community-based One Health interventions and their effectiveness, and environmental health factors affecting animal and human well-being.

Eligibility: Applicants must be based at an African research institution, university, or registered NGO, hold a Master's degree or higher in a relevant field (veterinary medicine, public health, epidemiology, ecology, environmental science, or related discipline), demonstrate experience with research or community health projects, and be committed to open-access publication of findings.

Funding Details: Grants range from $5,000 to $10,000 USD, covering research supplies, fieldwork expenses, data analysis, and dissemination of results. A detailed budget justification is required. Successful grantees will receive mentorship from senior One Health researchers and may be invited to present findings at the annual AWeCCA Research Symposium.

How to Apply: Submit a 6-page research proposal including background and problem statement, research questions and objectives, methodology and study design, anticipated outcomes and impact, detailed budget and timeline, and references. Also include your CV, letter of support from host institution, and proof of ethical approval or plan to obtain it.

Application Deadline: September 1, 2026. Successful applicants will be notified by October 15, 2026, with project start dates in November 2026. Grant recipients will be required to submit quarterly progress reports and a final report upon project completion.
